Patient anxious about getting cosmetic dentistry at dentist

There are those who say that nothing good in life comes without cost. But does that apply to a bright, flawless smile? Cosmetic dentistry has become more popular year after year, but many people worry that the glamor comes with pain. Thankfully, dentistry today is far more comfortable than it has ever been. Continue reading to learn more about cosmetic treatment and why you won’t need to suffer for beauty!

The Ease of Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dental treatments in general are some of the safest and least invasive. No matter what treatment you decide to go with, you can be sure that your dentist will do everything they can to keep you comfortable. Whether you have sensitive teeth or other dental issues to address, they’ll always make a plan to ensure your smile makeover is as painless as possible!

Does Teeth Whitening Hurt?

Professional teeth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic treatments for good reason. Not only is it relatively inexpensive, but it’s a fast and simple way to instantly improve your grin.

During the treatment, most patients say they experience a mild tingling sensation but never pain. Some, especially those with thinner enamel, report an increase in sensitivity afterward, especially to cold foods and drinks. However, this discomfort is temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain medications.

Is Dental Bonding Painful?

Dental bonding is another simple procedure used to fix lesser chips, gaps, or discoloration in selected teeth. It uses a tooth-colored compound made of resin and silica to fill small areas before being hardened with a special UV light.

But is it painful? Not at all! The process requires little in the way of tooth preparation—if any. This means your dentist’s instruments won’t go anywhere near more sensitive areas. Once the resin is hardened, it’ll feel just like your natural tooth with zero discomfort.

How Uncomfortable Are Clear Aligners?

Straightening your teeth with Invisalign, ClearCorrect, or other clear aligners doesn’t require metal brackets or wires, making it much more comfortable than traditional braces. However, the nature of orthodontic treatment lends itself to some mild discomfort at the start of the process and each time you switch to a new set of aligners.

Because of this, you should plan to eat soft (or liquid) foods for the first few days of every transition. Once the worst is over, you can go back to eating whatever you want without discomfort!

Cosmetic dentistry has come a long way, and most procedures are designed with patient comfort in mind. Whether you’re whitening your teeth or straightening your smile, any discomfort is typically mild and short-lived. If you’re worried about pain, just talk to your dentist! Communication is key to ensuring your experience is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
